CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Just days after President Donald Trump signed an order earlier this week to expedite the project, TransCanada Corp. has submitted a new permit application for the Keystone XL pipeline. Trump directed the State Department and other agencies to make a decision within 60 days of a final application. The project would transport oil 1,180 miles from Alberta to Steele City, Nebraska, where it would connect with other lines for refineries along the U.S. Gulf Coast.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order today directing an investigation into allegations of widespread voter fraud that have been widely debunked. Trump says the probe would include people registered in more than one state, registration of people who are deceased and those who are in the U.S. illegally. House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz saying he sees no evidence of such claims.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson has signed into law a ban on a common second-trimester abortion procedure known as dilation and evacuation. Abortion-rights supporters contend it's the safest and most common procedure used in second-trimester abortions and are expected to mount a legal challenge. The law will take effect 90 days after the Legislature formally adjourns this year's session, which is expected to end sometime in April or May.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Flags will fly at half-staff in parts of Ohio to honor a Cleveland police officer killed in the line of duty. Gov. John Kasich (KAY'-sik) has ordered U.S. and Ohio flags to be flown at half-staff on all public buildings and grounds in Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH'-guh) County and at the Ohio Statehouse from sunrise to sunset on Saturday. The observance is in honor of Patrolman David Fahey who was struck and killed while setting down flares after an earlier fatal accident. A driver is charged in Fahey's death.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The star of the TV show "Mannix" has died. Mike Connors starred as Los Angeles private eye Joe Mannix in the series, which ran for eight years on CBS beginning in 1967. Connors also starred in the TV series "Tightrope!" and "Today's FBI." Each lasted one season. His son-in-law says Connor died surrounded by family Thursday afternoon at a Los Angeles hospital from complications of leukemia. Mike Connors was 91.
