(KSL News) A Utah institution of higher learning celebrated its 60th birthday today.

Salt Lake Community College began in 1948 as the Salt Lake Area Vocational School. Since then, it's grown to include more than 100 degree programs in academic, technical, and vocational fields.

Today the college marked its founding by presenting 60 local schools with 60 books each. SLCC also will donate 60 quilts to 60 children.
