JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri voters will be the first in the nation to decide whether to amend their state constitution to prohibit sales taxes from being expanded to services such as auto repairs, haircuts, legal work and financial accounting. The proposal on the Nov. 8 ballot is a backlash against efforts in numerous cash-hungry states that have considered extending sales taxes beyond goods to keep pace with the service-based economy.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — A California woman awarded more than $70 million in her talcum powder lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson says she's pleased by the ruling, but it doesn't make up for the damage to her health. She made the comments after a St. Louis jury decided in her favor. She says she used Johnson's Baby Power for 45 years before being diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2012. J&J says science has shown no link with talcum powder and it plans to appeal.
