(KSL News) -- The Utah Air National Guard is marking its 60th anniversary of service. Current and retired guard members and their families gathered today for a special celebration.
The Utah Air National guard has changed a lot over the years. It started out as a fighter unit, then it transitioned into a transportation unit and now it focuses on re-fueling missions.
"As our contemporary minutemen serve and make us proud each day in very difficult places around the globe, I salute them. I salute you for your service. It is a privilege for me to be here today to say thanks for all you have done for Utah, the nation in keeping our families free and safe."
There are currently about 1500 air guard members in six specially trained units.
