SPANISH FORK — A 30-year-old man is dead after a crash on U.S. 6 in Spanish Fork Canyon Sunday morning, police said.
Emergency crews responded to report of the crash near mile marker 196 — about 18 miles east of Spanish Fork — shortly after 9:30 a.m., according to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Brett Christensen.
Christensen said a red 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was traveling east on U.S. 6 when it went left of the center line and struck the driver side of a semitruck traveling in the westbound lane.
"It wasn't quite a head-on crash, but very near to it," Christensen said. "It created a lot of damage to the passenger car and the semi."
The driver of the Monte Carlo, identified as Daniel J. Pike, of Price, was partially ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, Christensen said. He added that Pike was not wearing a seat beat.
Two occupants of the semitruck were uninjured in the crash.
Christensen said investigators believe alcohol may have played a factor in the crash, but the crash remains under investigation.
The crash closed U.S. 6 in both directions for about four hours as crews cleared the scene. The road reopened shortly after 1:30 p.m.
