EAST CANYON RESERVOIR — A Salt Lake county man drowned while attempting to rescue a child Saturday evening.

Ismael Segundo, 34, was fishing with his girlfriend and her two children when one child went into the water and started to struggle, according to Utah State Parks Lt. Eric Stucki.

Segundo, his girlfriend and her other child swam into the reservoir to rescue the struggling child.

The girlfriend and her two children made it back to the shore but Segundo did not.

The Department of Public Safety, Utah State Park, and search and rescue dive teams from Weber and Morgan counties helped in the search. The dive teams found the man's body about 20 feet off-shore around 9 p.m.
