(KSL News) Two people died when their car was hit by a reported reckless driver near Monticello. It happened around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Cameron Roden says UHP got a call about a reckless driver headed westbound on State Road 491 east of Monticello. A trooper traveling eastbound saw the suspect's red car driving in the wrong lane of traffic. The trooper says he was forced off the road to avoid a collision.
He turned around and pursued the car. The suspect ran a red light and slammed broadside into another vehicle at the intersection of SR 191 and SR 491. Two people inside the other vehicle were killed in the wreck. They are identified as Alice Rogers, 68, of Monticello and Nereece Johnson, 73, also of Monticello.
The suspect's name has not been released.
