(KSL News) -- A woman riding her horse along a mountain trail took a tumble down the canyon. The horse slipped on a rock, sending both the horse and rider tumbling down the mountain.
Dep. Kevin Scheffield, Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office: "The fortunate thing is the wildland fire people who make their base out of this area happened to be walking the trail or hiking the trail this morning and heard her calling for help just minutes after it happened."
Crews used a gurney from a nearby scout camp to get the woman off the mountain. She was taken to the University of Utah hospital in stable condition.
The horse has a severly hurt leg, but was able to make it out of the canyon. Veterinarians and the horse's owners will decide if they need to put the horse down.
