Utah Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bob Springmeyer hopes Obama's presence in the presidential race will help him in the state election. Springmeyer told the Ogden Standard Examiner that Obama will bring a whole new group of voters to the polls. He says most of them will be looking for a change not only at the national level, but also at the state level.

Springmeyer, 65, said he will have difficulty unseating Huntsman if Republican candidate John McCain picks Mitt Romney as his running mate. That is because of Romney's popularity in the state. Springmeyer, a management consultant from Salt Lake City, criticized Huntsman, saying he isn't an "engaged, hard-working governor," that he is merely a "rubber stamp for the state legislature" and that he has greater political aspirations. Right now Springmeyer is lagging behind Gov. Huntsman in the polls, but is ahead of Libertarian candidate Dell Schanze.
