FORT WAYNE, Indiana — The Fort Wayne Komets scored two goals in the third period to earn a 5-3 win Saturday night over the Utah Grizzlies and return to Utah with a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-seven series.

Ryan Hayes gave the Grizzlies a 2-1 advantage on a power-play goal in the second period, but Fort Wayne tied the game with 1:21 left until the second intermission and didn’t let up from there.

Hayes found Grizzlies point leader Charlie Sarault for a shorthanded goal to pull within one with 4:50 left, but the Grizzlies could get no closer and the Comets added an empty-net goal with 11 seconds remaining to clinch the victory.

Mark Owuya made 35 saves in goal for the Grizzlies, which open a three-game series homestead at the Maverik Center at 7 p.m. MT Wednesday.
