Obama's 2½ day visit starting Sunday will be a crowning moment for the ambitious diplomatic experiment that he and President Raul Castro's government announced barely a year ago. Obama will be joined by his family.
HAVANA (AP) — Starwood says it has signed a deal to renovate and run three Cuban hotels, returning U.S. chains to the island more than 50 years after American hotels were taken over by Fidel Castro's socialist revolution. All Cuban hotels are state-run so the deal signed Saturday puts a major U.S. corporation directly into business with the Communist government.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump says he'll act presidential if he's elected, but that the job requires someone who's willing to fight. Speaking today at a campaign rally in Tucson, Arizona, the Republican hopeful said he promised his daughter and wife that he would act more presidential. Trump also criticized protesters at his rally saying they're "taking away our First Amendment rights."
PARIS (AP) — French officials want the top suspect in last year's deadly Paris attacks tried in France. But Salah Abdeslam is fighting his extradition from Belgium. In Paris, a prosecutor says that during an interrogation session, Abdeslam told Belgian officials that he had "wanted to blow himself up" in Paris on Nov. 13 but that he backed out at the last minute. He was captured Friday in Brussels.
ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Two dual nationality Israeli-Americans and one Iranian citizen are among the five people killed on Saturday during a suicide attack on the main pedestrian shopping street in Istanbul, Turkey. Several dozen other people were wounded. No one's claimed responsibility for the attack but suspicion has fallen on the Islamic State group and on Kurdish militants.
