DENVER (AP) — A graduate of a Colorado university banned from putting Bible citations on a fundraising plaque in the school's football locker room is dropping a federal lawsuit now that the school has removed the original plaques.
Lawyers for Michael Lucas withdrew the case against the Colorado School of Mines on Friday.
The former Mines football player donated $2,500 and wanted his plaque to read Colossians 3:23 and Micah 5:9. The school agreed to allow him to inscribe the verse from Micah, which didn't mention God, but not the citation.
The publicly funded school says it never intended the locker room to be a forum for individual expression. It's launched a new plaque program which will only allow donors to put their names or the names of others on them.
