GRAND COUNTY — One person has died and another was injured following a head-on collision near Moab Tuesday night.
The accident occurred along state Route 191 about 10 miles south of Moab around 8:30 p.m., according to Utah Highway Patrol. A 2006 Dodge Durango was traveling southbound behind a semitruck and began passing the slower-moving vehicle in a double lane passing zone. While passing the semitruck, the driver drifted over too far and crossed into the northbound lane where it was hit head-on by an oncoming semitruck, UHP said.
The driver of the Durango was killed on impact and the passenger of the vehicle was airlifted to a Grand Junction hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The occupants of the semitruck received minor injuries during the collision.
The name of the victim has not yet been released, pending family notification.
