(KSL News) A Provo man admits to being part of one of the biggest mortgage fraud cases in Utah history.
Bradley Kitchen was accused of heading up a real estate scheme involving houses in the Provo River Bottoms area; a scheme that officials say artificially inflated the value of properties there.
This afternoon in federal court, Kitchen struck a deal with federal prosecutors. He pleaded guilty to his involvement in the conspiracy.
Kitchen told the judge he recruited straw buyers, falsified mortgage documents, committed mail and wire fraud.
He faces a possible sentence of 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and millions of dollars in restitution.
Five other defendants in this case go to trial on August 13.
