OGDEN — A man was arrested Friday afternoon after officers linked him to two credit union robberies, police said.
Peter Leonard Lyon, 58, was identified as the man responsible for robbing two Ogden credit unions within a three-week period, according to Ogden police. The first robbery occurred Saturday, Dec. 19 at the Goldenwest Credit Union at 3225 Harrison Blvd. During the robbery, Lyon displayed what appeared to be a pipe bomb, police said. He then exited the credit union with an undetermined amount of money.
Investigators said Lyon robbed the exact same bank back in the early 2000s and served time in federal prison for the crime. Lyon has an extensive history of bank robberies, according to Ogden police.
The second recent robbery occurred Friday, Jan. 8 around 2 p.m. at the Education First Credit Union located at 1250 County Hills Drive. Police said the credit union was robbed in a similar manner as the Goldenwest Credit Union.
"Witnesses stated Peter Leonard Lyon entered the First Education Credit Union and handed a teller a note which read, he had a gun and demanded money," police said.
Lyon received an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene in a silver Toyota Prius, which also matched the vehicle description of the car involved in the first robbery, police said. No one was injured in the robbery, and minutes later, officers located Lyon driving the vehicle near 2200 Jackson Ave.
"Officers located evidence from the Goldenwest Credit Union robbery and the Education First Credit Union robbery inside the suspect vehicle that Lyon was operating," police said.
Lyon was arrested and booked into the Weber County Jail.
