LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada's top schools chief says he expects test scores to be tied to teacher evaluations as planned next year, despite a recent overhaul of the No Child Left Behind education law that no longer requires states to do so. Any change to drop or substantially change that part of Nevada's educator performance evaluation system would require legislative action in the next session in 2017. The Nevada State Education Association is pushing for Nevada to dilute the weight of the test scores.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas fire official says no injuries were reported after firefighters quelled flames that badly damaged a boarded-up former motel property downtown. A fire spokesman says a search didn't find anyone in the 12-unit former Star motel. Investigators are looking into what caused the fire.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police say four people were hurt while a police officer escaped injury in a three-vehicle weekend crash involving an unmarked police car east of the Strip. Police say the police officer was using lights and siren when the 2014 Chevrolet Impala entered the intersection against a red light. The name of the 39-year-old officer involved in the crash wasn't immediately made public.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Prison officials say a 35-year-old inmate died over the weekend at a Las Vegas hospital. Officials with the Nevada Department of Corrections say Gregory Dufour died Saturday evening at Centennial Hospital. The Clark County Coroner's Office is scheduling an autopsy. Dufour had been serving time after being convicted of sexually assaulting a victim under the age of 16.
