SALT LAKE CITY — A Mount Olympus man accused of beating his father to death remains incompetent to stand trial, though officials at the Utah State Hospital believe it may be possible to restore competency within the next year.
Christopher Robbins, 30, was arrested and charged with murder in August 2014, accused of violently beating his father to death. His father, 70-year-old Dennis Robbins, was found dead in his Mathews Way home when another son called police to report a domestic dispute.
Robbins did not appear in court for a competency hearing, but prosecutors noted a recent report by psychiatrists at the Utah State Hospital expressed their belief Robbins can be restored to competency to face the charge. Hospital officials requested more time to work with him.
A new review hearing in the case has been set for June 13 rather than waiting a full year before meeting again.

According to charging documents, Christopher Robbins' brother called police on Aug. 1, 2014, when he heard his father screaming. He then saw Christopher Robbins walking out of their father's bedroom, removing latex gloves from his hands.
Dennis Robbins was found dead in the bedroom with his skull crushed and a metal bar on the floor next to him.
Court records indicate Christopher Robbins is a registered sex offender. He pleaded guilty in 2004 to enticing a minor over the Internet, a second-degree felony. He also pleaded guilty in 2011 to failure to register as a sex offender, amended to a class A misdemeanor.
