KINGSTON, N.Y. (AP) — Folk music icons Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger are having a reunion of a nautical nature.
The Daily Freeman of Kingston reports (http://bit.ly/1m3yyB5d ) that two Hudson River replica sloops are being restored at the same upstate New York boatyard. One was named after Guthrie and the other was launched by Seeger in the late 1960s.
The Woody Guthrie was named for the folk singer who died in New York City in 1967. It was built in 1978 to support Seeger's larger sloop, the Clearwater. Seeger died in 2014.
Both vessels help promote environmental issues in the Hudson Valley and are now being restored at the Hudson River Maritime Museum in Kingston, the Clearwater's winter home.
