Utah prepares for first major winter storm; avalanche warning issued
With the first major storm of the season expected to move through Utah Monday, crews from the Utah Department of Transportation have been out on the roads preparing for the impending commute.
UDOT said their trucks would be out as soon as the snow begins coming down. The agency encouraged Utah drivers to be prepared, too.
Suspected prank turns Farmington Pond bright green
St. Patrick's Day is still a few months away, but Davis County officials believe someone turned Farmington Pond green on Sunday as a possible prank.
"The Environmental Health Department has run several tests on the water and determined it to be inert, non-toxic dye that was placed in the water. The event is being investigated by Farmington Police Department as a criminal mischief type prank," the Davis County Sheriff's Office reported Sunday.
Airport gives wrong boarding pass to man on flight to SLC
Grant Campbell is a frequent flier, so going through airport security is second nature.
"I travel quite often," Campbell said. "Anywhere from two to eight flights a week. This will be my ninth flight this week alone."
Group aims to restore buildings in Utah's most famous ghost town
You may have distant relatives who settled there or you may have never have heard of it, but one group is trying to give the ghost town of Grafton a restorative makeover.
Grafton was settled in 1859 by Mormon pioneer families who were sent to Southern Utah as part of the Utah Cotton Mission, according to the Grafton Heritage Partnership Project website. The early settlers experimented with growing cotton in Utah's "Dixie" and were successful for several years.
25-year-old hunter's body recovered from canyon after fall
The body of a hunter was recovered Sunday from the Desolation Canyon area.
Zach Clement, 25, was mountain lion hunting with family Saturday when he slipped about 11 a.m. and fell 50 feet off a ledge, Carbon County sheriff's detective Wally Hendricks said.

Kicking off bowl week for Utes, Cougars in Las Vegas

Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo arrived in Utah on Sunday night before a scheduled appointment with BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe about the Cougars' head football coach opening.
Niumatalolo arrived at Salt Lake International Airport with his wife Barbara on Sunday night, wearing a sweatshirt with "Navy" emblazoned across the chest, less than 24 hours after leading the Midshipmen to their 14th-straight win over rival Army, 21-17 in Philadelphia.
Wichita State beats No. 25 Utah 67-50
Utah coach Larry Krystowiak looked at the postgame stat sheet with both surprise and resignation.
The 25th-ranked Utes lost 67-50 at Wichita State on Saturday, so Krystowiak knew he would not like the numbers on that piece of paper.
Scott, King lead Colorado past BYU 92-83
No lead is ever safe when Colorado steps onto the court. Usually it's a source of pride for the Buffaloes, who have overcome double-digit deficits in three of their wins this season.
Other times, it can be downright frustrating.
Josh Scott had 22 points and 10 rebounds, George King scored 23 points and Colorado held on to beat BYU 92-83 Saturday for its eighth straight victory.
Copper Hills takes Utah Elite 8 title with 66-63 win over Bingham
Charlie Olsen had 21 points and nine rebounds, and Preston Sanchez added 21 points to help Copper Hills take the Utah Elite 8 tournament title with a 66-63 win over region rival Bingham in the championship Saturday.
Porter Hawkins added 13 points for the Grizzlies (3-0), who shot 58 percent from the field in the first half to take a 36-31 lead at the break.
BYU signee Yoeli Childs had a game-high 35 points and 15 rebounds for the Miners (3-1), and Lleyton Parker added 13 points for Bingham.
