LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada is defending its school choice program that offers parents several thousand dollars to send their children to private schools if they choose. State solicitor general Lawrence VanDyke argued in a Clark County court that the case should be dismissed because the program doesn't directly fund religious schools The judge didn't say when he would return with a ruling after hearing three hours of arguments.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Las Vegas Review-Journal says it's been sold less than a year after New Media Investment Group bought it for $102.5 million. The state's largest newspaper reports that News + Media Capital, LLC bought the newspaper and its affiliated publications for an undisclosed sum. The publisher for the Las Vegas Review-Journal did not return a call and email seeking more information.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A UNLV student is suing a Nevada assemblyman who plans to move to another district in coming weeks and run for a state Senate seat. The lawsuit filed against Republican Assemblyman Erv Nelson on behalf of 21-year-old Ryan Fink asks the court whether someone can retain a seat if they've announced intentions to leave it. Nelson didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The case against a 66-year-old Nevada man accused of driving despite feeling a seizure just before a crash that killed two young children has been dismissed, thanks to a state law that allows his criminal charges to be settled out of court. The Reno city attorney said a judge has dismissed the two misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charges against Sheldon Berg because a settlement was reached in November. The terms weren't disclosed.
