REXBURG, Idaho — The driver of a pickup truck that was killed during an accident late Tuesday night was identified as 70-year-old Richard K. Caldwell of Sandy, Utah.

According to authorities on the scene, it appeared the driver of the pickup, Caldwell, crossed in front of a semi-truck at the Thorton intercharge at about 5:45 p.m. The semi struck the vehicle and rolled on top of it, crushing the pickup and the driver.

The driver of the semi was uninjured, authorities told EastIdahoNews.com. The pickup truck contained no additional passengers.

Witnesses at the scene said Rexburg, Madison County and Fremont County law enforcement and EMS responded to the scene. The Idaho Department of Transportation also was called to assist.

One lane of traffic was shut down for several hours while authorities cleared the wreck.

Authorities reported it took emergency crews longer then normal to get to the driver. A crane was used to remove the semi from the pickup truck.
