WASHINGTON (AP) — House lawmakers are pushing toward a vote on legislation tightening controls on travel to the U.S. for anyone who's been in Iraq or Syria in the previous five years. The bill, which is expected to be overwhelmingly approved, takes aim at the "visa waiver" program. That allows citizens of 38 countries to travel to the U.S. without first obtaining a visa.

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) — Donald Trump is standing by his call to block all Muslims from entering the United States. The idea has been drawing harsh criticism, even from Trump's fellow Republicans. House Speaker Paul Ryan says the plan is not what the Republican Party or America stands for.

BALTIMORE (AP) — The defense could begin presenting its case as soon as tomorrow in the manslaughter trial of a Baltimore police officer charged in the death of Freddie Gray. The prosecution rested today after calling about 15 witnesses. Gray was a 25-year-old black man who died after his neck was broken during a 45-minute ride in the back of a police van.

BOSTON (AP) — Boston College says the number of students reporting gastro-intestinal symptoms after eating at a Chipotle this weekend has climbed to 80. Previously, 30 students were reported to have gotten sick. Chipotle says it thinks the illnesses in Boston are the result of norovirus, not a multi-state outbreak of E. coli linked to its restaurants.

DENVER (AP) — A Denver man convicted of pushing his wife to her death from a cliff in Rocky Mountain National Park has been sentenced to life in prison. The judge imposed the mandatory sentence against 59-year-old Harold Henthorn, who was convicted of murdering his second wife, Toni, in 2012.
