(KSL News) The man accused of leaving a litter of puppies in a trash bin to freeze to death could spend the next five years in prison.
A 2nd District Court judge in Ogden sentenced Michael Ray Howard to one year for each of the 13 puppies that died last December. Each term will run concurrently.
Howard will also serve up to five years in prison on a separate third-degree felony charge for possession of meth. The judge also recommended Howard participate in a drug treatment program.
One puppy survived and is now living with the woman who rescued it from the dumpster.
