(AP Photo/Press-Register, Catherine Cotton) MOBILE, Ala. (AP) -- Lindsey Brinton of Utah has been named America's Junior Miss, earning her a $50,000 scholarship.
Helen Ching of North Carolina was also awarded a $25,000 runner-up scholarship Saturday in Mobile. Jackie Rotman of California received the second runner-up scholarship of $17,000. Five other finalists were awarded $5,000 scholarships.
The contestants at the 51st annual competition were judged on scholastics, interview, talent, fitness and self-expression. Judges reviewed their achievements and met with the girls for interviews.
The girls also performed talent and fitness routines during Thursday's and Friday's preliminaries. Eight of the 50 competitors were then selected for Saturday's finals.
