ESCALANTE, Utah (AP) -- Fire managers are already at work assessing how to rehabilitate land scarred by Utah's first wildfire of the season.
The weeklong assessment at the 2,269-acre Corn Creek fire is being done by experts in engineering, vegetation, wildlife, hydrology, soil and cultural and recreational sites.
Their job is to stabilize sites, repair roads and culverts, prevent erosion from summer thunderstorms and protect natural and cultural landmarks.
Authorities are starting to reopen forest roads in the area, about 11 miles west of Escalante.
