SALT LAKE CITY — Technology and water generally don't ever mix. And it's a problem many companies around the world have tried to solve to give water-loving people even more convenience without the worry of ruining expensive technology.
GoBag International claims to have solved the waterproof problem in a fast, convenient way with its magnetic dry bag. The bag, which is a transparent pouch that keeps out water for a wide range of technology, keys, or other items using a magnetic seal.
While not the first to the game, GoBag claims to be the "world's only magnetic self-sealing dry bag" and an easy solution for those interested in using their technology in the water. GoBag President Steve Goldstein said it's the "dry bag for dummies."
"People need to keep their essentials dry. Not many of the (similar products) work well. Some say ‘do not immerse,' some say ‘do not put underwater more than 3 inches,' " Goldstein said. "But imagine a magnet or a bag you put your stuff in there and let go. You have to seal it to believe it."
The dry bag comes in three sizes named after fish — Minnow, Dolphin and Orca — and starts at $25 for one bag. The Minnow and Dolphin dry bag are intended to hold smaller items, such as phones, cameras and keys, while the Orca dry bag is intended for larger objects like a tablet.
But Goldstein said the most important aspect about the bags is that there is a lifetime warranty associated with all bags.
"People don't want to put their $500 or $700 product in something they have to say a prayer that it's not going to leak," Goldstein said. "I don't think anybody can offer better customer service and a better product."

Goldstein said the bags are just a start with their magnetic inventions. He said the company is in the process of developing a bag-type product for shorts, where the wearer would be able to have items stay waterproof inside a pocket.
"I call it the Pocket LockIt," he said. "Who doesn't want a Pocket LockIt? Who doesn't want a dry pocket? I'm very excited about it."
Goldstein said he intends to work with a major clothing company like Quiksilver or Billabong to sign an exclusive deal to bring the magnetic bags to shorts.
"People love magnets."
