LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- Logan residents will have to save their pennies -- there will be no more wish-making in the fountains outside City Hall.
After 25 years, city leaders are shutting off the water and converting the fountains to flower beds.
Mayor Randy Watts says the fountain's pumps were worn and required frequent, costly maintenance. To save money, city leaders decided to convert the pools.
City workers have laid gravel and dirt in the fountains and will soon install a sprinkler system and plant flowers.
Watts says he talked to the Tanner Foundation, which originally paid for the fountains and Newell Daines, who was mayor in 1983 when the fountains were installed, before proposing the change. He says neither had complaints about the conversion.
