UNDATED (AP) — The only black member of Mississippi's congressional delegation says his state's flag should be removed from the House side of the U.S. Capitol and House office buildings because it depicts the Confederate battle flag. The resolution by Democrat Bennie Thompson says the flags should go to the Library of Congress. But state lawmakers' offices could still display them.
BOSTON (AP) — Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev says he's "sorry" for the lives he's taken and for the suffering he's caused. He made the comments today in a federal courtroom before being formally sentenced to death. It was the first time he has apologized to the victims and their loved ones. The 21-year-old also told them --quote-- "I pray for your relief, for your healing."
WASHINGTON (AP) — It's being hailed by some as a triumph of divided government. The Republican-controlled Congress has passed major trade legislation that was long-sought by President Barack Obama but opposed by most Democratic lawmakers. The bill to strengthen Obama's hand in global trade talks cleared the Senate today and now heads to the White House for his signature.
UNDATED (AP) — Parts of drought-stricken Southern California are ablaze tonight. About 1,000 people have been evacuated from homes as a 100-acre wildfire burns through brushy canyonlands north of Los Angeles. Meanwhile, crews are battling a huge forest fire that's been burning for a week in an inaccessible area of the San Bernardino Mountains.
NEW YORK (AP) — Bobbi Kristina Brown is now in hospice care after months in the hospital. Her aunt says Whitney Houston's daughter's condition has worsened. Brown, who is also the daughter of singer Bobby Brown, was found face down and unresponsive in a bathtub in her Atlanta area home on Jan. 31. The 22-year-old underwent respiratory tube replacement surgery in February.
