SOUTH SALT LAKE — Police are asking for help in locating two teenage boys who apparently escaped Saturday from the Salt Lake County Juvenile Detention Center, 3450 S. 900 West.
Staff members at the facility told South Salt Lake police it was about 1 p.m. when Yuvine Eusada-Alvares, 17, and Jonathan Grandes-Maves, 17, both from Honduras, crawled under one fence and climbed over another during recreation time to get away. The escape appears to have been planned and not spontaneous, according to Ashley Sumner of the Department of Human Services.
Police described Eusada-Alvares as 5 feet tall, weighing 110 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes, and was last seen wearing standard detention center clothing: blue pants, a gray T-shirt and white shoes.
Grandes-Maves is 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 120 pounds, according to police. He also has black hair and brown eyes and was wearing standard detention center clothing at the time of the escape.
One of the boys has family in the area, according to Sumner, but the other does not. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the teens is asked to call South Salt Lake police dispatch at 801-840-4000.
