Paul Nelson reportingWater watchers say most people in Utah are trying to conserve water, but they say too many people are still using too much water on their lawns.
The biggest water wasters, according to water resources officials, are your sprinklers. They say most people are watering too often. Utah Division of Water Resources Section Chief Eric Clot says lawns really only need 24 inches of water per summer after normal rainfall.
Eric Clot: "From some of our studies, we see that a lot of our homeowners are applying 50 or more inches."
Clot says busted sprinklers are a big problem and most people don't carefully look at the sprinklers because they automatically go off at night.
Eric Clot: "If a head breaks, and it's shooting old faithful, they don't know it."
Clot says people should only water their lawns every third day.
