BOUNTIFUL — Starting Friday, a major Bountiful road will be closed overnight as crews complete a bridge demolition project through the weekend.
The Utah Department of Transportation advised drivers that 2600 South will be closed to eastbound and westbound traffic Friday through Monday from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night. On Monday night, one lane will be open to vehicles, but traffic will likely be slow in the area.
Additionally, I-15 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction during the demolition overnight. UDOT officials urged motorists to use Legacy Parkway, 500 West or 500 South to avoid congestion in the area.
The closures are part of UDOT’s I-15 South Davis Improvements Project, which involves the reconstruction of the I-15 bridge that runs over 2600 South.
UDOT posted a video on its website showing how traffic will flow once the project is complete, starting with the southbound exit that will no longer exit on 2600 South, but will now end with three lanes — two going left, one right — that will exit on 800 West.
UDOT expects the change to keep congestion down in the intersection on 2600 South. There will also be a new intersection and traffic light just west of the freeway on 2600 South and 800 West.
Crews expect to have the demolition completed by Tuesday morning. For more information on the project and closures, visit UDOT's website.
