BOUNTIFUL — Commuters traveling through Davis County need to pay attention as UDOT Is about to open a lane split on I-15.

The project is adding the Express Lane from I-215 to Farmington and rebuilding the freeway bridges.

The lane split is a solution to keep the same number of lanes open while allowing construction to continue.

UDOT spokesman Vic Saunders said traffic will keep moving and drivers haven't had serious delays with the construction so far.

“We have promised people, it’s UDOT’S commitment to the motorists in this area. So, to do that, we provided the through lanes on the inside that will flow with no interruption whatsoever. The two lanes on the right side will be predominantly for exiting, but people can use those for through traffic if they want to,” said Saunders.

To exit the freeway in Bountiful, you will have to be in the right two lanes. If you continue in the left lanes, you will miss your exit, UDOT advises.

UDOT plans to make the northbound changes in the early morning of Nov. 11 then make the southbound changes at the end of that same week.

Saunders said UDOT's goal is that no one is surprised when the lanes split up.
