Tom Callan reportingThe Huntsman Cancer Institute is keeping its eye on a promising new cancer drug in the fight against malignant tumors.

MP470 is a little pill that destroyed multiple tumors for a Texas cancer patient.

"The reason this is so exciting is because the latest data suggests that they have a response," said Dr. Wallace Akerley at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

He says it appears that the drug makes chemotherapy work better.

MP470 is made by Supergen, a company with an office in Salt Lake City.

"We wouldn't allow a patient to receive this drug unless they'd exhausted all standard possibilities," Dr. Akerley said.

He says he might be interested in testing the new drug at the institute.
