PROVO — The man who allegedly stole a tip jar from a coffee shop was arrested Tuesday, police said.

A post with surveillance video of the theft, which occurred at the Coffee Pod located at 426 W. 1230 North in Provo on Oct. 26, garnered more than 76,000 views and 1,700 shares. It shows a man stealing a tip jar while an employee’s back was turned.

Chad Washburn, a 30-year-old Provo resident, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of felony theft at about 10:30 a.m., according to Provo police Lt. Brandon Post. He said that in addition to stealing the tip jar, Washburn stole a donation jar for a juvenile with cancer from the Provo Delipan Bakery, located at 335 S. Freedom Boulevard, on Oct. 29.

Investigators received multiple tips about Washburn’s identity after the surveillance video was shared online, according to Post. He said Washburn was booked into the Utah County Jail, and that the two theft charges were enhanced to felonies because of prior theft convictions.

After learning of the arrest, Marnie Roberts from the Coffee Pod said she wanted to thank everyone for sharing their love and support.
