LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas man was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison and ordered to pay a share of almost $193,000 in restitution for his role in an income tax refund scam that used other people's information to apply for First-Time Home Buyers Credit refunds.
U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden says Damon Boswell also was sentenced Monday to three years' supervised release for his May 29 guilty plea to conspiracy to submit false claims for federal income tax refunds.
Bogden says Boswell admitted that between April and May 2009 he and others obtained personal identifying information from people who were told they were entitled to "Obama stimulus" money.
A co-defendant, Cheryl Ramos, pleaded guilty Jan. 24 and was sentenced last month to three years' supervised release and a share of restitution.
