PROVO — The BYU Cougars are now 4-0 on the season and ranked No. 21 in the nation thanks to a second half surge against Virginia last weekend.
While the game was a blast to watch, especially if you’re a Cougar fan, it was something that happened off the field that has turned into the most interesting story to come out of the 41-33 Cougar victory.
Virginia kicker Ian Frye had a solid game, which included a 46-yard field goal to keep the Cavaliers in the game. But just before halftime, the junior learned that his father suffered a heart attack at the game.

Frye said that while he was worried about his dad, he decided to stay and play the second half because it’s what his father wanted.

Frye’s father went into surgery and the kicker met him at the hospital after the game.

The University of Virginia said the BYU staff was incredibly helpful and expressed their gratitude for the way they were treated.

Virginia head coach Mike London also weighed in on the situation and gave his thanks to BYU.
