US: Strikes kill 50 militants...Concerns about Jordan...Another American with Ebola

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. military says its latest airstrikes in Iraq killed an unusually large number of Islamic State fighters. A U.S. Central Command statement says a series of strikes hit targets near the Haditha Dam, including a "large" Islamic State ground unit. It mentioned no numbers, but a Central Command spokesman says 50 to 70 fighters were targeted and most are believed to have been killed.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. is stepping up intelligence cooperation with Jordan amid worries that one of it could be vulnerable to the Islamic State militant group. Two former CIA officials say the agency has approached the former chief of the CIA's Near East division about setting up a special task force to help Jordan. Robert Richer became close with King Abdullah when he was Amman station chief in 1999.

ATLANTA (AP) — A fourth American who contracted Ebola in West Africa is expected to arrive in the U.S. tomorrow and will be treated at the Atlanta hospital where two other aid workers successfully recovered from the disease. Emory University Hospital is citing confidentiality in not releasing more information about the person, but the World Health Organization says one of its doctors who's been working in an Ebola treatment center in Sierra Leone has tested positive. The State Department says the doctor is from the U.S.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Running back Ray Rice won't be carrying the ball for the Baltimore Ravens anymore. The team cut Rice today after TMZ Sports released video showing him striking his then-fiance' in an elevator in February. A police summons after the incident stated that Rice had knocked Janay Palmer unconscious. The NFL has now suspended Rice indefinitely, after previously suspending him for two games. Both the league and the Ravens say they hadn't seen the video until today.

PHOENIX (AP) — Gov. Jan Brewer has declared a state of emergency in Arizona as the remnants of Hurricane Norbert swamp parts of the state with record rainfall. More than 3 inches of rain today closed parts of several freeways in Phoenix and flooded numerous streets in the metro area. One woman in Tucson was killed when rushing water pinned her car against a bridge.
