Gene Kennedy reportingA Springville mother charged with negligent homicide in her daughter's death had a lot of support for her first day in court.

They feel as a parent, Terece Bundy had the right to take care of her child how she saw fit, and did everything she could to help her daughter.

In March 2005, Rachel Bundy died after contracting bacterial meningitis. The prosecutor says Bundy neglected the nine year-old girl by not taking her to the hospital, possibly only giving her homeopathic treatment.

Terece Bundy / Charged in daughter's death: (Gene: Is this a violation of parent's right?) "That's exactly what it is. Yes. I'm not going to make any comment beyond that." (Gene: Was the treatment adequate?) "Yes it was."

Rachel Talley / Bundy Supporter: "It's horrible to watch this, to have the death of her daughter, and then have to sit through something like this that is just basically trying to take away her free agency. She has every right to treat her child the way she deems appropriate. She is a responsible loving mother."

But the county attorney's office conducted its' own investigation for some time and feels strongly that Bundy's neglect caused the daughter's death.

Kay Bryson / County Attorney: "The people you've spoken to, that are demonstrating in the lobby of the courthouse, only know what they have heard from Mrs. Bundy. They do not have the benefit of the police report and the medical examiners report, and all the information that we have in our decision, has been made on the basis of those reports and our investigation."

The girl's father Dorian Bundy has not been charged. He drives a semi trailer and prosecutors say he wasn't home when the 9 year-old girl was receiving treatment.

What makes this story even more interested is that Terece Bundy is a licensed nurse, so why wouldn't she take her daughter to the hospital? The prosecutor says all that will come out but he won't discuss the facts of the case right now.
