UNDATED (AP) — The U-S Geological survey says aftershocks continue following a strong earthquake near Napa, California, northeast of San Francisco. The USGS reports on its website that the preliminary magnitude 6.0 quake hit around 3:20 this morning Pacific Daylight time at a depth of just under seven miles. It's the largest earthquake to shake the Bay Area since the 6.9 magnitude Loma Prieta quake in 1989.
NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) — Heavy rain has fallen on parts of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic from a tropical depression that has now become Tropical Storm Cristobal. Thousands are without power and water. Cristobal is heading for the Bahamas and a tropical storm warning has been issued.
TWISP, Wash. (AP) — New headaches could arrive today for an area of Washington state already singed from widespread wildfires and flooding. Forecasters say a slow-moving front bringing heavy rain and thunder is expected to arrive, just days after flash floods destroyed at least 10 homes and closed down highways. The concern is that heavy rain brings the possibility of flash floods and debris flows.
BABYLON, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say they're investigating a fiery crash on Long Island that killed five people, including two children. New York state police say a car veered off the Southern State Parkway late last night, struck a tree and burst into flames.
ROCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — The journalist from New Hampshire whose two years of captivity by Islamic State militants ended in his beheading will be remembered today. A Mass of Remembrance is set for James Foley, who was kidnapped on Thanksgiving Day 2012 while covering the Syrian uprising. The Mass is in Foley's hometown church, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Rochester, New Hampshire.
