GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israel is again carrying out airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, after Islamic militants resumed rocket attacks. The Israeli military says it struck more than 20 targets Saturday. Hamas officials say the airstrikes hit houses, mosques, its warehouses and training sites. A handful of rockets landed Saturday morning in Israel.
IRBIL, Iraq (AP) — Iraq's human rights ministry says hundreds of women from the Yazidi religious minority have been seized by the militants with the Islamic State group in northern Iraq. Thousands of others have fled to the mountains where they've been trapped. The Pentagon says U.S. planes made a second airdrop of food and water to them early Saturday, including more than 28,000 meals and more than 1,500 gallons of water.
NAYPYITAW, Myanmar (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is in Myanmar seeking to calm tensions in the South China Sea between China and its smaller neighbors. Kerry opened talks with senior Southeast Asian officials at a regional security forum amid concerns about recent provocative steps taken by China and others regarding several disputed territories.
HONOLULU (AP) — Saturday's primary election is going ahead in Hawaii, despite the rain and winds from Tropical Storm Iselle (ee-SEHL'). Officials have postponed voting in two precincts on the Big Island where Attorney General David Louie says "there are miles of roads that are obstructed" and power outages. The big races are the Democratic primaries for Governor and U.S. Senate.
SEATTLE (AP) — The son of a Russian lawmaker has pleaded not guilty to charges of hacking computers at U.S. businesses and stealing credit card information. A federal judge in Seattle has ordered Roman Seleznev, of Vladivostok, Russia, held without bail until a hearing Aug. 16 to consider his custody status. A 2011 grand jury indictment alleges Seleznev stole more than 200,000 credit card numbers and sold more than 140,000 of them, generating more than $2 million in profits.
