SALT LAKE CITY — A woman driving the wrong way on a one-way street in downtown Salt Lake City was arrested after allegedly attacking an officer who pulled her over early Monday morning.

Around 3 a.m. Monday, an officer was approaching a car he pulled over for going the wrong way on 500 South near 50 West when dispatch told the officer the car was stolen, police said.

The driver, Rachel Sandoval, 19, apparently overheard the police announcement and tried to run away. She told the officer her passenger had a gun, trying to scare him off, police said. She attacked the officer who was able to detain her with back-up without incident.

Police said there were no weapons in Sandoval's car. The passenger, whose name was not released, cooperated with officers and was released at the scene.

Sandoval was booked on charges of possessing a stolen vehicle, giving false information, driving the wrong way and other outstanding warrants, police said.

More information will be posted as it's available.
