ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- The developer that plans to buy the land under the St. George airport says it wants to use the property for a mixed-use development.

Anderson Development says it will build neighborhoods, churches, schools and open green spaces on the mesa overlooking downtown St. George. A conceptual design also includes a town center with shops and an amphitheater.

Partner and co-owner Michael Hutchings says people should be able to move in beginning in 2013. First, the city has to build its new airport so demolition can begin at the site of the old one.

The developer and the city have until April 30 to sign a final contract. Neither side has indicated any reason that won't happen.
