SALT LAKE CITY — Every year thousands of people make a commitment to start the new year off with a bang. That bang usually entails a goal or resolution to start working out, eat better and improve health.

Unfortunately the majority of people do not accomplish these areas of their resolutions for one reason or another.

For some, it is a life event that has caused an interruption to their daily routine, for some it is the cost of going to a gym just does not seem to be paying off and for others it is simply a struggle to keep up with doing what they need to do to be consistent.

The truth is, living a healthy lifestyle is not just something we do, it is something that has to be constantly on our mind. No matter how long someone has been working out or eating right, ensuring that your health is a top priority takes a sustained effort. The question then becomes, how can one create sustainable, health fitness habits?

As someone who has struggled with this, there are some key areas that have been identified that can really improve the success rate of not only improving our health and fitness but maintain it as well. Here are some proven ways to ensure that you can create sustainable, healthy fitness habits:


The truth is, living a healthy lifestyle is not just something we do, it is something that has to be constantly on our mind. No matter how long someone has been working out or eating right, ensuring that your health is a top priority takes a sustained effort.

1. Make a conscious decision: This may sound obvious but in reality, it is the most important step in creating the opportunity for success. See, it is pretty easy to follow everyone else and set a New Year’s resolution or see an ad on TV and say to yourself, “OK, I am going to start working out on Monday.” That is more often than not a superficial decision.

It is a conscious decision to make real change. The word conscious literally means “aware of one's surroundings, one's own thoughts and motivations.” With that definition, it is clear to see that you must make a conscious decision to create sustainable, healthy fitness habits in your life.

2. Make a simple workout plan: You can go online and watch exercise videos for free. You can register at your local gym, meet with a personal trainer and schedule to go to the different workout classes.

However, if your plan to workout is not led by a certified professional, simple, convenient and flexible, it is extremely challenging to maintain your fitness.

Let’s face it; time is something we all wish we had more of. There seem to be more and more priorities popping up on a regular basis, and if you do not have simple workout plan, it seems to be the first thing dropped off the priority list.

To create real, sustainable, healthy fitness habits, you must be able to find programs that allow you the flexibility you need yet ensure you can achieve great results. There are programs that offer online gym access that can provide you with a tailored workout plan just for you.

3. Use your social connections: People get inspired by other people. There is true power in knowing that others are there to support you, challenge you and celebrate with you as you make your journey down the path of improve health and fitness.

Think about how good it feels it to get an email from someone saying congratulations on something you have accomplished. It motivates you to want to do more. The same thing happens when you congratulate others for their accomplishments.

There is no denying the fact that when it comes to fitness, the ability to be connected to others will increase one's success rate dramatically. Your ability to team up with others will no doubt improve your chances of creating and maintaining sustainable, healthy fitness habits.

There are other important things that will help to ensure your success in creating sustainable, healthy fitness habits, like learning about the importance of nutrition, understanding how supplements can increase your results and the power of personal success coaching. But the three items focused on above will give the start you need to achieving great success.
