HOLLYWOOD — The true story of former Olympian and World War II prisoner of war Louis Zamperini has captivated the world over the past several decades.
Zamperini’s incredible story was exposed to a whole new audience when Laura Hillenbrand recorded it in her 2010 book “Unbroken.”
Now, even more people will know Zamperini’s unbelievable story when the film adaptation of the book hits theaters this Christmas.
The highly anticipated film, directed by Angelina Jolie, has debuted a special “Olympics preview” that gives us our first look at the film “Unbroken.”
The preview gives those unfamiliar with the story a small insight into the story and it gives those who have read the book a glimpse at some of the triumphant and horrifying moments we’ve only seen in our minds.
The film tells the story of Louis Zamperini, who competed in the 1936 Olympics as a long-distance runner while the world was at the brink of war. Zamperini then was shot down during World War II and spent more than 40 days lost at sea only to be rescued by the Japanese and spend years in a prison camp.
The preview appears to capture much of the heart, pain and jubilation that makes it one of the most memorable and intriguing stories of our time.
“Unbroken” stars Jack O’Connell as Zamperini and is due in theaters Christmas Day 2014.
