SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A Salt Lake City Police detective accused of slapping a high school student has been fired.

The student at Highland High School says the detective pulled him by the ear and pushed him into an office. 17-year-old Ashton Guillory says he merely said "hola" and for some reason the detective took offense.

Guillory says the detective smacked him inside the office. The teen's mother says two other officers witnessed the incident and reported it.

Attorneys for the teen's family say a settlement has been reached with the city.

Prosecutors are considering whether to file any criminal charges.
