SALT LAKE CITY — The secret to losing weight this year could already be in your back pocket.

In our modern culture, most of us have our phones with us at all times. Here are the top smartphone apps to help you get in shape and master your weight for 2014.

GO Food and Activity Tracker

This is a revolutionary food and activity behavior modification tool that allows you to enter meals and activities with a single touch. All you have to do is choose a circle to "pick your color, pick your size and hit GO".

Then a timeline lets you zoom out and gives you the ability to see the big picture over time. Are you eating too much at night? Snacking too often? Not getting as much exercise as you thought? It's pretty easy to spot your trouble zones, fix them once and for all and stay on track with this handy app.

Popsugar Active

This is a great app packed with video and print workouts. You can choose workouts by type or body part, and the videos are high quality and easy to follow. It's super easy to navigate and you don't have to sign up or sign in, which makes it easy to open the app. Then you can pick a workout and get moving.

Zipongo Healthy Recipes

If you want to lose weight, you have to eat healthier, and if you want to eat clean, you're going to have to plan healthy meals. This app is beautiful, easy to navigate and packed with practical recipes. You can browse recipes and plan your week, or you can hit a "magic" button and it will plan meals for you.

Once you have your recipes planned, it creates seamless grocery lists and even identifies coupons and savings at your local grocery store.

Lolo 7

This handy fitness app was voted "Best of 2013" in Fitness Revolution by Apple. It has solid workouts, it can be completely customized and it features fully integrated video, music and interactive intensity adjustments. It's based on the scientific 7-minute workout originally published in ACSM's Health and Fitness Journal. You can complete the 7-minute workout one to three times based on how long and hard you want to workout.

Yoga Studio

Yoga Studio is one of the best yoga apps in the market. It features 30 ready-made video workouts and the ability to create your own yoga practice. This app is easy to use and has a nice library of individual yoga poses so you can master poses one at a time as well. The integrated calendar schedules your classes and keeps you on track.
