UPDATED (AP) -- Women's ski jumping cleared its first major hurdle today toward becoming an Olympic sport.
This after the International Ski Federation voted to add an individual event in the 2009 World Championships in Liberec, Czech Republic.
American jumper Alissa Johnson of Park City, Utah, received the news early this morning. She says this is the most amazing day of her life so far.
Deedee Corradini -- president of Women's Ski Jumping U-S-A and former mayor of Salt Lake City -- says they couldn't be happier. She says they can't wipe the smiles off their faces.
For women jumpers to compete at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, the sport still must be accepted by the local organizing committee in Canada and approved by the International Olympic Committee.
