SALT LAKE CITY — Thousands are heading to the airport and driving their cars on packed roads Friday on one of the biggest travel days of the season. Fortunately, AAA says prices at the pump are the lowest they've been in three years during the holidays.
Several flights with Delta and American Air that have been delayed a few hours, so you're taking off from the Salt Lake International Airport, make sure to check you flight status.
Yesterday's storm forced more than 200 flights to be delayed or canceled at the airport. But things appear to moving much more smoothly Friday.
AAA is forecasting 94.5 million people will pack the roads and runways around the country.
"That's the fifth year in a row of increases," said AAA spokesman Michael Green. "In fact, it'll be the most people ever traveling for the holidays."
Fortunately for drivers, AAA reported prices at the pump are the lowest they've been in three years during the holiday season.
Since Christmas this year is on a Wednesday, researchers believe the major problem days for accidents will likely be Friday this week, and Monday and Tuesday for next week.
Data from the travel website kayak.com indicates the most popular destinations this weekend are along the east coast while the hot spots to spend New year's eve are on the beach in Florida.. Mexico and the Caribbean..
Regardless of where travelers are headed this weekend, AAA said they should take a look at the weather. A winter system is threatening trips, especially across the midwest.
Utah is expected to receive another winter storm as well.
