Sandra Yi and Chris Kaye ReportingPolice are looking for a man who threatened a woman because she honked at him. It's another case of road rage. It's easy to lose our tempers behind the wheel, but police say there's a lesson to be learned from this incident.
Last night a woman was driving in the area of 800 North and 800 West when a car pulled out in front of her. She honked her horn. Police say the driver of the car in front of her got irritated and began hitting his brakes on and off.
The woman pulled into an apartment complex nearby. That's when the car stopped. Police say a man got out of the passenger side door, went over to the woman, and pointed a gun in her face.
Det. Joe Cyr, Salt Lake City Police Dept.: "When the suspect pulled out his gun and aimed it at her face, he was very confrontational. I don't know exactly what the contents of his statements were, but it was very frightening to her, and she drove away."
Police say that was the right thing to do. They add, motorists should only honk their horns as a warning sign. For example, if they're warning someone about an oncoming car or a pedestrian. They say no one should use the car horn out of irritation or anger.
The suspect is a black male in his early 20's, with average height and build. He was driving an older, multi-colored 4-door car. The suspect could face aggravated assault charges. If you have any information, call Salt Lake City Police.
