PARLEYS CANYON — One person is dead after a vehicle drove off the freeway and crashed, bursting into flames.
Thursday, around 3:10 p.m., a vehicle driving northbound on I-215 went over a concrete barrier after the driver, Steven T. Parker, failed to negotiate the turn near the mouth of Parleys Canyon. The Cadillac Escalade became airborne, crashed into the hillside, between 200 and 250 feet below, and caught fire on impact, Utah Highway Patrol said.
Parker, 46, was killed in the crash.
The crash closed the I-80 westbound to 1-215 northbound ramps and the I-215 eastbound to I-80 eastbound while emergency crews were on scene.
